"Till I Die"

Mika and Chris was a best friend. They were childhood friend. They are always together. Went to the same school until graduated. Mika was a beautiful and smart, she always been the first in the school. Chris also a handsome and chase by many girls. As the time flows, their love grew. Chris realized that he love Mika so much. But he afraid if he told Mika that he loves her, she will be mad and their friendship would end.

He never knew that Mika also loves him very much. Years passed, he still can't tell her about his feeling. They just talk and share their stories to each other as usual.

Year and year passed, they are now 21 years old. He realize he should tell her about his feeling towards her. No matter what's her response, he will try to accept it. Next day they met.

Chris : we are best friend since we were young. But i've never seen you dating a boy

Mika  : well, yeah

Chris : don't you think of looking a boyfriend? or you already have someone that you like?

Mika  : why do you ask?

Chris : we are best friend, can't i know that?

Mika  : i already love someone

Chris : oh really? (broken hearted)

Mika  : yes, i knew him for a very long time. But i know he doesn't like me

Chris : don't say like that, you're beautiful who doesn't like you

Mika  : do you like me?

Chris : i love you more than my life. Do you want to be my girlfriend?

Mika  : of course, i love you too Chris

He never expect she would say that. He felt really happy. Since then they are always hang out together. Laugh and share their happiness. He thinks that his life really perfect with her. He thinking of testing her how much she loves him. Chris is handsome, it's not hard for him to make another girl fall in love with him. He dating a girl to make Mika jealous. And see how's her reaction. One day, he asked Mika come to the park near his house. That is the place where they use to spend time together when they were young. He went there with another girl. When Mika come and saw them together, she gave surprising reaction.

Mika  : so you go out with her now?

Chris : yes, isn't she is gorgeous?

She just smile and said: yes, she is. Well, hope you happy with her

Then she walk away. Chris become stoned. He can't believe how she responded to this. Why doesn't she angry, or told me to broke up with that girl? Now he regret for what he did. He is the one who ended this relationship.

He then called her, texted her million times, but no answered. He cried and broken hearted. There were no news from her again since they broke up. He tried to undergo his life normally.

Three years passed, he still can't forgot her. He still loves her very much. They never met again for this three years. Chris miss him so much. Now he understand love is not about to had, but to look at the people we love happy. She just wanted him to be happy although it hurt herself. Why would he did that? He knew Mika loves him very much.

He want to meet her again. Just to talk to her and see her. Imagining how pretty she is, how she smile at him makes him really happy. Till he saw a girl stand across the street. It was Mika, he feels so happy. And he quickly get into her.

Chris : Mika, where were you for this years? i miss you so much

Mika  : stay away from me

Chris : i'm sorry Mika, i can't forget you. I still love you and i will always love you. Please forgive me. I didn't really mean to cheat on you. I just kidding around, i really love you. There's no way i could fall for another girl

Mika  : i hate you. Go away!

She pushed him and went away. Chris chase her with tears on his eyes.

Chris : Mika, please wait

Mika  : Forget me and you can go out with all the girl you want but not me. You can fool and get all the girl you want but make sure i'm not one of them. I hate you!

He try to get her hand and she directly run. He chased her until he saw a car comes up with high speed.

Chris : Mika! No!!!

The car hit Mika. She lied unconsciously on the street. There was blood everywhere. He felt so scared. It was his fault. He shouldn't force her. He didn't think Mika will hate him like this.

Chris : i'm sorry. This is my fault. This is my fault. You shouldn't have forgive me. I'm so selfish. I'm so stupid. I'm sorry, Mika

Mika slowly open her eyes. She look at Chris with her weak eyes.

Chris : Mika? Hang on. I'll take you to the hospital. Please, hold on

Mika didn't reply. She is too weak to say any words. Chris hurriedly took her to the hospital. Chris worriedly look at her. He smile and try to comfort her.

Chris : you will be fine, sweety. You'll be fine

Chris wipe the blood on her lips. But she keep spitting blood. He hold her hand tightly.

Chris : come on, don't make me worry sweety. Stop this, this is not fun. Stay with me, don't close your eyes

They arrive at the hospital. She hurriedly take to the emergency room. Chris so worried and afraid. It's all because of him. He doesn't want to lose her. He look at himself. His hand and clothes are full cover of blood. He cried and cried.

Chris : this is my fault. This is my fault. This shouldn't be happen. Why it has to be her? I can't forgive my self forever. THIS IS MY FAULT! I'm really afraid now. I don't want to lose her. Please, please, please save her

The doctor finally come out.

Chris : how's she? she is fine right? i know she will be fine

Doctor: she suffer severe injuries. Her head was badly injured. Now she's in critical condition. We can't give much hope

Chris : but there's still a chance that she will recover right?

Doctor: i'm sorry i can't make sure of that. She's still alive is a miracle

Chris : can i see her?

Doctor: you can see her as long as you can

He enter the room. Mika lying unconsciously on the bed. She looks really pretty. He sit on the chair beside her bed and stroke her hair gently.

He come everyday to hospital to see her. It has been 2 weeks since she is in coma and she hasn't awake yet.

Chris : please wake up, Mika. I love you...

He said this words everyday to Mika. But she never wake up. Suddenly the doctor shows up.

Chris : what is it?

Doctor: she has been like this for 2 weeks. There's no use to keep her alive like this. Let her go, Chris

Chris : No way i would give up on her. I will never let her go! I will wait till she wake up, although it took a year, 2 years or 10 years, i will wait till i die. I will take care of her for the whole of my life

Doctor: it's up to you. But i want you to know that it's useless. There's only little chance that she will regain her conscious again

Chris : screw you

Doctor: and one last thing. Do you know that she suffering from leukemia?

Chris : what??

Doctor: she didn't tell you?

Chris : since when she suffer from leukemia?

Doctor: about 3 years ago

He can't believe for what he heard. He now understand why she told him to stay away. She didn't want him to know that she suffer from a disease. He is so desperate now. She suffer from a deadly disease. And he can't do anything for her.

Year and years passed. Nothing has changed. She's still like before.

Chris : when will you wake up, sweety? i've missed you so much. Do you remember today is my birthday? i don't wish too much. My wish still the same since 9 nine years ago. "Please wake up..." Is it too much for you?

He kisses her head. Tears falling from his eyes. Slowly, Mika open her eyes. Chris was so surprise.

Chris : Mika?

Mika  : who are you? (she speak in a very low tone)

Chris : what? ... i'll go call the doctor

Doctor said she is fine and nothing's wrong with her memory. She doesn't remember him. 9 years passed, Chris is now 33 years old. She can't recognize him anymore.

Chris : i'm your remaining family. You don't have anyone left but me

Mika  : i don't know you. I don't have family like you

Chris : i'm your distant relative

Mika remain silence.

3 weeks later, the doctor allowed Mika to come back home. But she still need attention since she hasn't fully recover.

Chris : doctor allow you to go home earlier. We will go home now

Mika  : where will i live?

Chris : you will live with me, or you want to die here

Mika  : wait, i don't want to live with you

Chris : you don't have any choice

Mika  : what? it is sound better to die here

He shock and upset.

Chris : please don't say that. You can't...

Mika  : .....

They arrive at Chris's home. Mika didn't say any words since they leave the hospital.

Chris : you will live here from now on

Mika  : why do i have to? i don't to live with you

Chris : you don't have anyone here. Where will you live if it is not with me? come on, just come in

Mika  : who are you really? you are not my family!

Chris : calm down, you are not fully recover yet

Mika  : why do you care? who are you?

Mika fell unconscious. Chris quickly carry her to the bedroom. He look at her and smile.

Chris : you always make me worry, don't you? Looking at you and be by your side like this already makes me happy. I don't need you to know who i am

Next day, Mika awake and saw the man sleeping beside her and hold her hand tightly. Chris wake up.

Chris : how's your feeling? are you alright?

Mika  : ah..yes

Chris : if you need anything you can tell me, i'll go to work. Don't go anywhere by your own, it's too dangerous outside

She nodded. She thinking of running away but something make her change her mind. Chris come back very late. Mika has slept quietly. He relieved to see Mika is fine.
Chris : how are you today?
Mika  : ....
Chris : Mika?
Mika doesn't reply. She fell on the floor and suddenly spit out blood from her mouth. Chris was so panicked, he quickly take Mika to the hospital.
Doctor said her leukemia become worse. She may only have few months. That words hurt him so. He doesn't want to lose the one he loves so much. Mika doesn't even recognize him now. Mika can't recover anymore and only has few months left. He come to the room to see Mika. She is lying on the bed.
Chris : hi, how are you feeling?
Mika  : better, don't worry about me
Chris : we will go home then
Chris can't effort hospital bill. He should take care of Mika alone. If he can effort it he should have Mika stay in the hospital.
Day and days quickly passed. He really scared, time passed so fast. He doesn't want anyone and anything take Mika away from him. He wants to make Mika happy no matter how.
Chris : do you want to go somewhere? or you want something? i will take you where ever you want and give you everything you wish for
Mika  : no
Chris : really? you don't have a place that you want to visit?
Mika  : i'm happy to stay here
He look at Mika for a moment and he can't hold over his tear anymore. It could be the last time he can see Mika like this.
Mika  : why are you crying? did i do wrong?
Chris : no, not a little. I'm crying because i was so stupid, because i made a very big mistake long time ago that i can't forgive myself until now
Mika  : if i may know, what was that mistake?
Chris : well, i almost killed the only girl that i love
Mika  : oh, sorry. Where is she now? you said 'almost' so she's still alive right?
Chris : yes, she is so close to me but maybe she doesn't remember me anymore
Mika  : why not?
Chris : because i'm so useless
Mika  : don't cry anymore, you're really nice. How could someone thinking you are like that?
Chris : but that's true. The girl i really love is going to leave me and i can't do anything for her
Mika  : .... i want to ask you something
Chris : sure you can ask me anything (smile with the tears still falling from his eyes)
Mika  : who is that girl?
Chris : someone that is really special for me
Mika  : Chris?
Mika hug him and kiss him. Chris was so surprised. He can't believe what just happened.
Chris : Mika....

Mika  : it's really you. Why do you have to lie to me?
Chris : i'm sorry. You don't have to be like this, it's all my fault. I ruined your life. I know you will never forgive me. If i wasn't so selfish that time everything's not going to be like this. Why i am being so stupid? you should have hated me. I'm afraid if i tell you the truth you will keep distance from me. I'm afraid i can't see you anymore. I'm afraid i can't talk to you anymore...
Mika  : stop it. It's not your fault, i didn't blame you
Chris : no, you have to. Why am i being so selfish? I just wanted you to be mine, forever. But yet, i can't do anything useful for you.
Mika  : that's enough. Thank you, Chris
Chris : for what?
Mika  : for being with me for this whole years. You are still here when everyone has give up on me. You wasted your own life for being with me. You are really stupid
Chris : i don't mind to take care of you forever. Be by your side makes me really happy. I love you so much (kissing her head)
Mika  : I've always love you, thank you so much
Here he is. Chris stood and looked at a tombstone with Mika's name crafted on it. Two years have passed, now she rested in peace here. He put white roses on it.
Chris : although you are not here anymore but i can still feel the warm of your heart. I love you, Mika. Bye and see you tomorrow...
